Good news for electric vehicle lovers, owners, manufacturers, and enthusiasts! The Electric Vehicle Bill was recently signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte under Republic Act no. 11697 on April 15, 2022. Under the EV Law, promotion of adoption of EV’s and setting up of charging stations and related infrastructures shall be executed, spearheaded by the Department of Energy. The EV Bill will include the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry (CREVI) which will serve as the national framework for the development, commercialization, and utilization of EVs in the country. Among the primary focus of the CREVI is the standardization of EV components, specifications, charging structures, among other things.

Other government agencies are also involved in the promotion of the electric vehicle industry. Department of Transportation (DOTr) is tasked on the demand generation for electric vehicles, while the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) shall assist and promote local manufacturing of electric vehicles.

The passage of the EV Bill greatly helps local manufacturers, such as To-Jo Motors Corp, to develop and produce electric vehicles  with lower costs, be competitive in the market, and become more adoptable by many Filipinos.
